With an outdated design and limited storage, the original kitchen required a higher ceiling and some structural changes to open it up and create more space.
In taking on the task, designer Emma Mackie of M Interiors opened up the kitchen by pushing back the wall and established its connection to the dining area by adding an island bench with bar stools.
To elevate the kitchen’s over-all look, Emma specified Calacatta Borghini for the benchtops and splashback, blending it craftfully with other elements for an over-all classic look.
“The material palette selected was a classic, contemporary look - soft grey shaker style cabinetry and marble look stone benchtops and splashback. The selection was Calacatta Borghini, a beautiful classic veined marble look porcelain,” explained Emma.
A marble-style of warmth and sophistication, Calacatta Borghini is Smartstone’s remarkable recreation of natural Italian marble that elevates any space with the versatile beauty of its brown-grey veins on a creamy white background.
In choosing the perfect surface material, Emma further explained, “The advantage of going with Smartstone was the 20mm option that had the veining showing right through the biscuit so we could do a radius to the open corner. This couldn’t be done with a 12mm porcelain and natural stone was outside the budget”.
A unique characteristic of Smartstone surfaces, through-body veining takes stone manufacturing to a new level of textural beauty. Using advanced print technology, the Sintered Collection features veins flowing through the body of the slab, matching the aesthetic and colour of the surface.
Exclusive to Smartstone veined surfaces, this attribute becomes an important consideration with designing kitchens with large kitchen islands and benchtops with exposed edges such as arris or pencil round.
From the Deluxe range, Calacatta Borghini is one of six Calacatta marble replicas in the Sintered Collection, representing the natural beauty of marble while offering the durability of sintered stone. Owing to the innovative and advanced print technology incorporated in the Smartstone sintering process, the Collection delivers remarkable marble aesthetics and accurately mimics the unusual and naturally occurring veined Calacatta patterns.
With its impressive visual appeal, Calacatta Borghini is also one of five surfaces in the Collection that can be book matched, a striking design feature where veins are matched from slab to slab to create a seamless surface aesthetic.
